Store Lead / Assistant Manager
Location: Port Townsend, WA
Type: Part-time or Full-time (to be discussed)

This role supports the daily operations of the store, with a strong focus on customer service, order processing, and keeping workflows organized.

The Mail Plus Store Lead consistently delivers a positive customer experience by using consultative customer service skills to anticipate needs, suggest alternatives, and provide effective solutions. This role is knowledgeable in all areas of Mail Plus services, including shipping, mailbox services, printing, and retail products. 

The Store Lead helps coordinate daily store operations, assists customers with orders, provides pricing and product information, and recommends appropriate products and services. They oversee workflow and the production queue to ensure projects and customer requests are completed accurately and on time. 

This role also includes operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, moving boxes and equipment, stocking materials, managing retail supplies, coordinating complex projects, and completing tasks based on priority to support smooth store operations and excellent customer service. 

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Supervision 

  • Help train and support team members on store procedures and customer service standards. 

  • Assist with scheduling and shift coverage. 

  • Provide guidance during busy periods and maintain efficient workflow. 

Store Operations 

  • Open and close the store when needed. 

  • Handle register transactions and cash balancing. 

  • Monitor supplies such as packaging materials and printing paper. 

  • Maintain store cleanliness and organization. 

Service 

  • Demonstrates consultative behaviors in a retail environment to understand each customer’s individualized need 

  • Provides outstanding customer service experience by using consultative skills to anticipate customer needs, suggest alternatives, and find solutions to meet customer needs 

  • Ensure all customer problems are resolved quickly and to the satisfaction of the customer 

  • Takes complex customer orders using order systems and provides accurate pricing information 

  • Assembles parcels and prepares goods for shipping by wrapping items in insulation, inserting items into shipping containers, weighing packages, and affixing labels to packages 

  • Maintains a safe, clean and orderly retail Store 

  • Ensure confidentiality of customer data and careful handling of documents, media, and packages 

  • Processes financial transactions using a Point of Sale terminal (POS), including handling cash and making change 

  • Takes preemptive action to prevent errors and waste 

  • Completes required financial paperwork and may assist with financial reporting including daily sales, close-outs and bank deposits 

  • Follows Mail Plus standard operating procedures as well as adhering to legal, HR, safety, customer service and security policies and procedures 

Self-Management 

  • Performs multiple tasks at the same time 

  • Looks for opportunities to improve knowledge and skills within the retail Store 

  • Able to operate with minimal supervision 

  • Adheres to all Mail Plus team member and retail store standards, as outlined in the team member handbook 

  • All other duties as needed or required 

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Must have basic computer skills and smart phone knowledge 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Ability to stand during shift, excluding meal and rest periods 

  • Ability to move and lift up to 50 pounds 

  • Ability, on a consistent basis, to bend/twist at the waist and knees 

  • Ability, on a consistent basis, to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and other team members

  • Ability, on a consistent basis, to perform work activities requiring cooperation and instruction 

  • Ability, on a consistent basis, to function in a fast-paced environment, under substantial pressure 

  • Ability, on a consistent basis, to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time 

  • Ability, on a consistent basis, to work with minimal supervision 

  • Ability, on a consistent basis, to report regularly to work and maintain established business hours to support the Mail Plus business
